Richard Wagamese
Richard Wagamese was born in 1955 in Minaki, Ontario. He is an Ojibway First Nation journalist and author since 1979. When he was young, he grew up in foster homes and was eventually adopted by a family in southwestern Ontario. Since then he has been a newspaper reporter, radio/television broadcaster and producer, documentary producer and is the author of eleven titles from major Canadian publishers. He has twice won the Native American Press Association Award and the National Aboriginal Communications Society Award for his newspaper columns and was also the first Native Canadian to win the National Newspaper Award for Column Writing in 1991. He currently produces a television series, One Native Life, which runs as a radio commentary and newspaper column in both Canada and the U.S. and was a weekly television commentary in Kamloops, BC. He now lives in BC with his wife, Debra Powell, and dog, Molly.
